Student Drop Off and Pick-Up

The safety of all children and staff must be considered as paramount at all times when dropping students off at school. The number of serious incidents related to traffic circulation at the front of the school and in the Kiss and Ride area during morning arrival and afternoon dismissal has risen. These incidents include vehicles entering the site in the wrong direction, parking and pulling out of no parking zones, parking in bus lanes, to name a few. It is imperative that all parents/guardians who drive their children to school adhere to the traffic circulation plan and comply with the traffic and parking signage on the site. It is equally imperative that all drivers follow the direction of school staff managing the traffic circulation on the school site.
The Kiss and Ride lane is located on the west side of the building by the parking lot. This lane allows an adult to drop-off or pick up their child without getting out of the vehicle. Vehicles should never be left unattended in the Kiss and Ride lane. The area in front of the school is a designated fire route. There is no stopping at the front of the school at any time. This area is for buses and emergency vehicles only.
The Brampton Traffic Safety Council has observed our Kiss ’N Ride and have made recommendations. One of the recommendations includes adding pylons to limit access to driving through the front of the school as there has been congestion with cars dropping off/ picking up students.
This will be in effect as of April 1st, 2016.
Kindergarten & Grade 1 Student Pick Up
Kindergarten and Grade 1 adults picking up student are asked NOT to use the Kiss and Ride lane since these students require an adult to pick them up at the door. Please park in the parking lot or the adjacent streets and walk to the appropriate dismissal door.
Kiss and Ride Procedures
To ensure the safety of our students we require all parents using the program to follow the procedures outlined below:
Drivers should remain in their car at all times. This includes before and after school bells.
WE ASK THAT KINDERGARTEN PARENTS DO NOT PARK IN THIS LANE FOR SOFT ENTRY AND DISMISSAL TIMES.
- Parents need to drive, as directed by our staff, to the top of the Kiss ‘n Ride lane to release their children
- Students must be able to get out of the vehicle on their own
- Students should exit the vehicle on the passenger’s side, not the driver’s side
- Students should exit the vehicle next to the school sidewalk, not in the parking lot
- Use only the Kiss ‘n Ride lane to drop off your child(ren), not the drive-thru lane or lane on west side of parking spaces.
- Do not park your car and leave your vehicle unattended
- Use the Kiss and Ride lane to drop off or pick up your child
- Do not use the drive-thru lane for dropping off or picking up children
- Move up the Kiss and Ride lane as far as possible to maximize the number of cars using the program
- Do not get out of your vehicle
- Do not back up
Driving to School and Parking
If you are using the parking lot to bring your children to school, please do not cross through the drive through and Kiss and Ride lanes. Use either the paved area close to the field or the crosswalk at the beginning of the Kiss and Ride lane.
Please remember that student safety supersedes parents’ convenience. Staff members are on duty to ensure that our students are safe. If you have concerns or suggestions about our Kiss and Ride procedures, please put them in writing and hand them in at the office. Please do not openly address staff with inappropriate comments or gestures.
